have a pizza that

March 27, 2017

Pizza is SO good, but it’s so easy to overdo it & take in WAY too many calories. Here’s a skinny Domino’s order for the pizza-lovers out there who still want to fit in their clothes the next day. Have your pizza & eat it, too! Click through now to The Summer Lover to learn more!{ pin it! πŸ“Œ }

How’s everyone’s weekend going so far? Hope it’s been beach-y & bright!

I spent my Friday night w/ a granny moment, curled up in bed w/ some soft blankets & a good book ( currently reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert – SO good ) & then spent my Saturday finishing all of my assignments due next week so that I’d have time to work on TSL & get some TLC during the week.

Gotta make time for you babes ( & myself ), y’know?

But anyway after powering through some business calc I developed a serious pizza craving.

& the thing about cravings is that once it’s there, it’s there & needs to be crushed … or else the next time you’re face-to-face w/ a pie of lovely pizza, you’ll stuff that whole thing down your throat.

Nope, NOT pretty.

If you don’t know this about me : I have a deep, deep love for pizza. & it hasn’t been a healthy relationship since pizza isn’t the greatest thing to eat – it’s easy to overdo it & it’s full of carbs, sodium, & hidden calories ( aka if you throw on too many toppings ).

SO I wanted to find a way to modify my order to the point where I’m consuming less calories & fewer bad ingredients.

I ordered a Continue Reading

some lil’ tricks to maximize movement & ditch the sedentary lifestyle

March 22, 2017

We spend most of our day stuck in a chair, so here are FIVE easy tricks to maximize movement & burn some calories. Seriously, it doesn’t get easier than this - click through to The Summer Lover now to learn more!{ pin it! πŸ“Œ }

I try to hit the gym & work out for an hour or 2 on the daily, always … mostly ’cause it’s calming & therapeutic & really kicks my ass into gear.

& also because being a full-time student means I’m quite literally glued to a chair for most of the day.

Last week ( the week coming back from spring break ) was superrr busy & hectic – & left me with no time to spare – which is so aggravating since it’s already so hard to separate excuses ( a.k.a. laziness ) from actual, legit conflict when it comes to hard, hard work.

As a way to balance it out, I tried to maximize movement whenever I could so that I wasn’t 100% sedentary.

5 Tricks to Maximize Movement, Ditch the Sedentary Lifestyle, & Burn Some Calories

β˜€οΈ Walk, & then walk some more.

If you have to go somewhere & it’s less than a 10 min walk away, just walk. There’s no real need to take the car – or in my case, the on-campus shuttle – unless I’m absolutely running late ( typical ) or there’s annoying weather ( rain, rain go away ).

you’re more than just a number

March 17, 2017

Wellness can be measured in tons of ways … weight is just one of them. Stop obsessing over a few numbers & click through now to learn more about why your weight could be bipolar & totally unreliable! { pin it! πŸ“Œ }

Really, you’re more than just a number.

ClichΓ© as that statement is ( haven’t we heard it about a million times by now? ), it just needs to be said.

& said AGAIN.

It’s so ridiculously easy for us to consider things quantitatively especially when we deal w/ so many numbers on the daily : the number in your bank account, the number on your transcript, the number glaring up at you from your bathroom scale, & heck, even something as trivial as the number of likes you have on a picture.

Those numbers enter our minds & within a split second we’re already comparing it & wishing for a different one.

So, I want to encourage you to see things differently, especially when it comes to that morning moment of truth when you close your eyes & step on the scale. When those 2 or 3 numbers set your mood for the day. When they glare up at you accusingly, & you frantically try to remember what you ate the previous day.

Please please please don’t obsess over it.
Don’t give it the power.

Because, when it really comes down to it, it doesn’t even matter what those numbers are.

… & no, I’m not about to say what matters is what’s inside. ( Even though it kinda totally is??? )

I’m saying what reallyyy matters is Continue Reading

give it up for … lent

February 28, 2017

March 1 is the start of Lent ... & I'm participating this year! Click through to The Summer Lover to learn about the luxury I'm giving up this year & why!{ pin it! πŸ“Œ }

GUYS.

It’s almost March … which means there’ll only be 1 season standing between me & my bae, summer.

Buh-byeeee, winter – you won’t be missed too much. ( or at all? )

But, March 1 also means …. Lent!

As in, what luxury are you giving up this year?

As you guys probably know, I started working out at the gym a couple times / week last year & 100% avoided the Freshman 15 – I even lost some weight!

But, I actually didn’t crack down the whip & make it into a routine until Lent. It was my 1st time ever participating & I gave up 2 hours every night to go to the gym & work on myself.

& it was a hell of a success – it really stuck. Really, just the best decision ever.

Even now, a year later, I definitely look forward to my gym sesh every night. Maybe not for 2 hours EVERY night ( life happens ), but def for an hour on most nights.

SO this year for 40 days I want to give up another luxury.

On the last day of winter break, I was up at 6 am ( !!! ) after sleeping at 11 PM the prev night. & yes, maybe I did wake up at every hour for some unknown reason, but I’m just glad that I’ve been keeping up w/ my resolutions so far.

A few friends & I decided to do a lil’ celebratory brunch at Snooze, an AM eatery in San Diego, CA ( Hillcrest ). Sadly, mimosas weren’t involved, but I quickly ordered a glass of water & a much-needed mug of coffee to start, for a nice caffeine boost & appetite suppressor.
