Hi, hi! … & a happy happy Independence Day to you babes in the U.S. – & happy Tuesday to everyone else!

I’m back again today w/ another birthday post … to talk about how I’m another year wiser. Some birthday REAL TALK, if you will.

I promise this one’s the last of it … & then we’ll go back to our regular sched of wellness, nutrition, fitness, etc.

Y’know, just some of my faves. πŸ˜‰

BUT I feel like these kinds of posts are still very important to discuss – it keeps me accountable, gives you guys inside intel on WTF is going on in my head, & maybe will provide some value for you ambitious girlies out there.

I completely, totally love & embrace positive changes & I’m very into seeing character growth. Character growth is just EVERYTHING, y’know?

It’s like how Gossip Girl is a TOTAL guilty pleasure show & it has its stupid moments at times … But the amount of character growth + changes every character goes through is just incredible & kinda awe-inspiring.

( p.s. I read the entire Gossip Girl book series & I’m not a fan. Why? Because there’s hardly any character growth – the characters are very much one-dimensional & the whole ordeal just gets BORING … especially after 13 books. )

A fair warning : this post is going to be LONG, it’s going to be JUICY, & I’m hoping it’s going to be something you ENJOY. So sit back, sip some frosΓ©, & get ready for some MAJOR realness.

& without further ado – here are the top 5 life lessons I learned this year :

β˜€οΈ Not everyone will like you … & that’s OKAY.

If not, these life lessons are still good to know - for real! This lesson was RIDICULOUSLY hard for me to learn. I feel like it’s been a longggg time coming & I’m glad to FINALLY learn it & put it to bed.

Basically … I love LOVE : I love spreading love, I love to be loved, & I love seeing the best in people. So when I would get hate in return – or most commonly known to me as “fake love”? It would absolutely CRUSH me.

& as you’re reading this maybe Drake’s Fake Love is already streaming in your head. Or maybe that’s just me?

Throughout my life ( & I’m sure this happens to pretty much everyone ), there have been so many situations where someone just doesn’t like me – whether for a reason or not. If I had a dollar for every time it happened … well let’s just say I wouldn’t even be here right now – HA!

As a teen, the first thing I did when this happened was mold myself into what the person would like.

YES, correct – I would change & not be true to myself … just because someone didn’t like something about me. & I would change blindly, not even knowing whether or not changing this one thing would make me more likeable in their eyes.

& more often than not, it never did.

Now, as an adult venturing into the creative business, this just doesn’t stop happening. & the thing I’ve come to learn is that it never will – & that’s OKAY.

It’s swell, it’s fine, it’s chill, it’s whatever … because the KEY is to be the bigger person, get over it, & stay in your own lane – some battles just aren’t worth fighting.

& while that’s easier said than done … it all connects back to your confidence level. How comfortable are you with yourself & who you are as a person? If you’re comfortable with yourself & if you’re confident that you’re already trying your best to be the very best version of yourself – then nothing else really matters.

It’s all background noise.

Because the reality of it all is that other people can spend their energy to put you down – but if you don’t let yourself get affected, they’re just wasting their own damn time bathing in negative energy.

& that’s just not your problem, y’know?

β˜€οΈ Always be YOU – unapologetically.

This lesson ties right back into the previous one.

It’s all about not focusing on what other people think. Focus on what YOU think, & always do YOU because it’s your life & it’s up to you to live it.

Life is honestly so beautiful because we have full control of our actions & we can make our own changes. If you like what you’re doing & who you are, channel in Nike & JUST. DO. IT.

Very excited that I learned this lesson because blogging is all about beating to the tune of your own drum. Really, ANYTHING creative is just like that. Not everyone will get you or see your vision – but in the end as long as you do, that’s all that matters.

β˜€οΈ Being alone doesn’t make you a loner. Cherish every solo-moment you have.

I started realizing this in college, but realllyyy learned this lesson during my study abroad sesh in Paris.

There has always been this HUGE stigma about being alone & how that makes you a loner with no friends, no boyfriend, no life, whatever.

& I stuck with that idea for the most part : honestly a year ago I would’ve felt sorry for myself about the fact that I didn’t have any plans on a Friday night while everyone else was out there, living the life.

It wasn’t until later that I finally realized just how THERAPEUTIC ( not to mention productive ) alone-time could be.

It really all started when I would go out at night to work out by myself at the gym : not only was I able to work on myself physically, I was also able to work on myself MENTALLY.

It was the best thing.

Later, I decided to do something … & that something was go study abroad in a country where I hardly knew anything about the language, culture, & geography. For the first time ever, I boarded my first plane alone, stepped on a cobblestone street alone, bought groceries alone, & spent days exploring the city … you guessed it : ALONE.

& seriously there are NO regrets. Yes, I would have very much liked having a friend to snap my pic in front of the Notre Dame … but traveling alone was an INSANELY good experience.

It was exhilarating, eye-opening, inspiring, & I really learned a lot about myself.

Highly recommend traveling alone at least ONCE in your life : no friends, no significant other, no nothing.

It’s AMAZING – I can’t say that enough.

β˜€οΈ ALWAYS be nice – but not to the point where you’re taken for granted.

Being nice is COOL. Being mean isn’t.

I always like to say that it takes the same amount of energy to be nice to someone as it takes to be mean to someone.

So really, there’s never an excuse to be a dick.

As previously mentioned, I love seeing the best in people so I’m often overly nice … to the point where I sometimes let people step all over me.

I’m talking : genuine compliments, conversations tailored to things they’re interested in, & always being there for someone when they need it.

Which is all well & good when the person in question appreciates you … but if someone is taking you for granted / being irrationally mean? Don’t put up with it.

I used to do this thing where I try to avoid the person or would just “kill them with kindness” – but from experience, doing so doesn’t actually solve any problem. I think sometimes it’s necessary to get UNCOMFORTABLE & be confrontational to get the message across.

BE REAL.

β˜€οΈ Do what you can, & do it NOW.

SO much YES for this one.

To all you creatives, boss babes, bloggers, etc. etc. etc. – really, just ANYONE with ambition : If you have HUGE crazy insane goals – don’t worry.

Just do what you can, & do it NOW.

Chip away at it, little by little, until you knock the whole damn thing down.

If you do something every single day to work toward a goal, you’ll look back a couple years from now & realize that you’ve been absolutely KILLIN’ IT.

Whether your goal is to lose weight, to start a business, to get good grades, to learn an instrument, to read 100 books – ANYTHING.

The sky is the limit if you just try, try, TRY.

NO EXCUSES … because excuses are kinda like assholes, y’know?

Everyone has one & they’re full of shit.

So I’ll leave you w/ that lovelyyyyy image, hoping that this post was inspiring or helpful in some way …
