Hi loves!

Sorry for being a bit MIA – I’ve really been wanting to post consistently ( at least once a week ) but life has been pretty cray-cray lately :

  • Major TSL planning going down for next year
  • Finals week … a.k.a. classes were pretty damn stressful
  • I got an on-campus job, finally! #hustling
  • I broke my toe ( don’t ask πŸ˜… )

Yup, I def hit that time of the semester when things slide out of control. πŸ™

… But, I’m back now, babes!!! It’s all sunny from here – HELLO, summer vaycay – hope you’re a hottie.

SO anyway, Lent this year ended on April 13.

& as you babes know, I gave up animal products for at least 40 meals ( a.k.a. went “vegan” for at least 1 meal / day ) … & obvi y’all are gonna get every lil’ TMI detail.

I mean, why else are you here? The ocean’s the limit when it comes to TSL realness. πŸ˜‰

Now, before I get into the reflection part of this post, I want to address the controversy / weirdness revolving around veganism & what it actually involves …

I chose to go part-vegan this Lent because I wanted to contribute to better the environment by reducing animal product consumption. The whole point of it was to give up an everyday luxury & be a lil’ more selfless. I also just really wanted a challenge & an opportunity to get creative.

I noticed that being vegan is a pretty popular thing nowadays that’s associated w/ healthy eating, & it can be, but that’s not really the focus of it. I found that it’s MUCH easier to commit to & maintain when you’re doing it for an ethical reason.

BUT, it’s totally okay to want to eat a “vegan diet” for health reasons! That’s the difference : when it’s a vegan diet, you’re cutting out foods derived from animal products. When you’re an actual fully-committed vegan, you’re swearing off all animal products – things like leather or even beauty products that are made w/ animal ingredients.

There are people out there who totally have a holier-than-thou attitude when it comes to being vegan – & I totally, 100% get it.

Like, of course they wouldn’t want someone to downplay their passion.

In the end, though, the whole point of being vegan is ethical … SO why nitpick when people who eat vegan diets still contribute to that, right?

Anyway, just wanted to add my 2 cents to the mix + make it clear that I’m not 100% vegan. I actually ended up doing really well & doubled my original goal by eating 2 meals / day without any animal products, but honestly I have leather bags, boots, & who knows what else in my makeup.

SO it was just a vegan diet!

I honestly LOVED the challenge of avoiding animal products – it was def not the easiest thing ’cause there are TONS of things out there made w/ animal products that you wouldn’t realize. Like, gelatin was hiding everywhere, y’know? & honey was a definite no-no.

The struggle was REAL, REAL.

I DID feel like I ate healthier, mostly ’cause my school’s caf had limited choices … but it also has something to do w/ the fact that I’m currently taking a nutrition class & I’m hyper-aware of what I’m putting into my mouth nowadays.

Breakfast was def an improvement, especially since I’m such a huge, huge sucker for breakfast foods. I stuck to oats, fruits, & a ( kinda gross ) mug of “level 4” black coffee in the AM.

Cutting oily fake milk carton eggs & processed meats like bacon has made such an improvement in my morning energy / mood, you can’t even imagine.

ANYWAY just wanted to give you guys an update on that & share the results! I’m not sure about the weight loss factor though since I didn’t have access to a scale when this was all going on. But since I was sticking to moderate portion sizes & eating lots of healthy foods, I’m sure I dropped some LBs as an added bonus.

So, how do you feel about veganism / vegan diets? LET’S DISCUSS. x
