real talk

you’re more than just a number

March 17, 2017

Wellness can be measured in tons of ways … weight is just one of them. Stop obsessing over a few numbers & click through now to learn more about why your weight could be bipolar & totally unreliable! { pin it! 📌 }

Really, you’re more than just a number.

Cliché as that statement is ( haven’t we heard it about a million times by now? ), it just needs to be said.

& said AGAIN.

It’s so ridiculously easy for us to consider things quantitatively especially when we deal w/ so many numbers on the daily : the number in your bank account, the number on your transcript, the number glaring up at you from your bathroom scale, & heck, even something as trivial as the number of likes you have on a picture.

Those numbers enter our minds & within a split second we’re already comparing it & wishing for a different one.

So, I want to encourage you to see things differently, especially when it comes to that morning moment of truth when you close your eyes & step on the scale. When those 2 or 3 numbers set your mood for the day. When they glare up at you accusingly, & you frantically try to remember what you ate the previous day.

Please please please don’t obsess over it.
Don’t give it the power.

Because, when it really comes down to it, it doesn’t even matter what those numbers are.

… & no, I’m not about to say what matters is what’s inside. ( Even though it kinda totally is??? )

I’m saying what reallyyy matters is how healthy you are.

& there are so many other ways to measure health besides your weight : how many ounces of water you drank today, how many whole, natural foods you ate + how many nasty processed foods you didn’t eat, how long you worked out for, how much body fat you have, how many hours you’re sleeping every night, how much balance you have in your life.

I mean, you can totally be “skinny” & have no muscle or “fat” & be all muscle – your weight doesn’t 100% determine your health.

& since societally people already body-shame, let’s just not do it to ourselves, okay?

Weight isn’t everything!

It can honestly be a lil’ batshit psycho + bipolar & the next thing you know, you’ve gained or lost 5 lbs on the scale. The change doesn’t exactly happen overnight just because you had a cookie during lunch.

Weight just changes regularly depending on what’s going on with our bods. Things like having your period, or losing / gaining water weight, orrrr even when you build up or lose muscle – muscle weighs heavier than fat!

Just thought I’d kick off the start of this oh-so-needed weekend w/ my 2 cents & a lil’ encouraging reminder to never forget to spend some quality time w/ some self-love.

& again – you’re more than just a number, babe.

Much love! xx

I recently switched my mindset to not care about the number on the scale. I quit weighing myself. I do pay attention to how I am fitting in my clothes though, so that I don’t yo-yo. I also pay attention to how I am feeling.

Hey Willow! Yup, I totally agree – I weigh myself once in awhile, just for reference. The way we look in our clothes is honestly such a better determinant, ha! xx

Exactly, Hal! No need to put yourself down for no reason, right? xx

This is such a great blog post! I agree completely we are more than a number it is about how we feel not what the scale says. I haven’t stepped foot on a scale in years unless I was at the doctor office haha.

I’m so with you on this, Kayla. I swear I drive myself crazy weighing myself on the scale. But at the end of the day, what matters is how healthy I am. Thank you for your positive vibes!

This is so true! In a materialistic world we need to not define ourselves by numbers like you said. I am going through an inner-love journey so I can totally relate x

Yay! Self-love is so, so important & I’m so happy for you – best of luck on your journey! xx

  • Reply Joy Generoso March 20, 2017 at 3:13 AM

Regardless the number, as long as you are happy with your body it really doesn’t matter. I know I’m overweight but who cares. 😉

      Hey Joy!
Loving your confidence – & just wanted to let you know that you’re lookin’ awesome, girl. xx

I couldn’t agree more with this article. This is the exact reason why I don’t own a scale. Weight it nothing but a number.

This is a beautiful post! I absolutely agree that what we weigh doesn’t determine our worth or health. What matters is how we feel and our health/wellness. Keep on being fabulous!

      Hi Aarika!
      Exactly! Healthy mind, healthy bod.

Thank you for the reminder to be kind to ourselves and practice self-love. It isn’t always easy (especially with swimsuit season approaching!) but it is an important mantra to remember 🙂
