Heyyy! It’s been a while, no?

How was your Thanksgiving?

Don’t feel bad if you ate enough turkey + cranberry sauce for the both of us – I missed out on ALL of the traditions this year.

I’m talking : AM in my room ( hiding from the cold, obv ), PM in a random Parisian KFC for Thanksgiving Trashgiving dinner ( KFC is so much worse here … didn’t think it was possible ), & the AM of Black Friday dancing in a underground club ( there was an actual slide to slide down to the dance floor ).

So random, right?

Really, the only tradition I participated in was feasting overeating.

… Okay, & Black Friday too – online shopping is my shit. πŸ˜…

Overeating as in : I was already full, yet I didn’t stop myself from eating more.

Are you having a “been there, done that” moment?

Admittedly, I’ve been having a moment after most of my meals recently.

You can say that I’ve been going through an icy patch : I stopped working out & I suppose just subconsciously stopped watching what I was eating. The excitement & stamina involved in traveling, trying new things, & adapting to a different culture blinded me from realizing what I was doing – wellness was totallyyy out the door!

But, I’m not here to make excuses.

I gazed at my reflection in the mirror earlier the other day & decided that it was time for a wake-up call.

Real talk : while in Paris, I prob lost muscle, gained body fat, & ate / drank junk I definitely shouldn’t have. & this is after losing tons of weight during the summer after LOTS of hard, hard work.

“Kayla, WTF are you doing?!” I literally stood there questioning myself.

So, finally fed up with overeating ( HA! ), I staged an intervention for myself to get back to my wellness ways.

If you’re going down the same path, whether you’re struggling with overeating or simply just eating the wrong things, make sure you keep reading! We’re in this together. πŸ‘―

Step 1 : Don’t stress.

Don’t worry, babe! Commitment is hard – it’s totally normal to mess up from time to time. Fuming at yourself & being stressed out isn’t going to burn your calories for you – it actually makes things SO much worse. ( exhibit A : for me, stress leads to stress-eating, which leads to more stress from overeating, & this cycle-from-hell repeats itself )

Instead, take a deep breath, gaze in the mirror, & affirm to your reflection :

“You’re a beauty, but you WILL stop eating things that you know you shouldn’t so that you can be the best, healthiest version of yourself.”

Step 2 : Find the problem & consider some solutions.

Think about why you started adopting unhealthy eating habits – what went wrong? πŸ™

Here’s what went wrong for me ( they’re hard truths, but I want to be 100% real with y’all ) :

Problem #1 : I was eating out wayyy too often, which often meant bigger portions of ( possibly ) unhealthier food. I started overeating just to finish whatever was on my plate.
Solution #1 : Limit eating out ( by making my own lunch ) OR eat in half-portions. Try not to dwell on the fact that I’m wasting food – I’m saving myself from unneeded weight, diseases, & other negativity!

Problem #2 : I had to walk down 6 flight of stairs to get to the dorm’s shared kitchen, where cooking was SUCH a hassle & eating alone wasn’t very fun. ( a.k.a. I was being 100% lazy ) Naturally, I defaulted to buying a fresh baguette & some cheese. ( okay, but really, baguettes are IRRESISTIBLE πŸ˜© ) Plus, I made sure I had snacks handy in my room in case I wanted a quick snack.
Solution #2 : STOP BEING LAZY!!! Think about why I’m watching my diet in the first place : to achieve wellness & parade around in pretty clothes!

Problem #3 : It was hard to resist grabbing too many things while grocery shopping since food is different here & I wanted to try everything.
Solution #3 : Plan my meals ahead of time & make a strict grocery list of the necessities before I go to the store.

You might be wondering how I came up with all of that so fast. It’s because I know myself & I totallyyyy know what I did after I had some time to reflect. You can get to know yourself, too, by organizing your thoughts a lil’ bit.

I made an easy worksheet you can fill out to figure things out! Grab it below, babe!

Step 3 : Take it slow.

Yes, you probably just gained some weight from overeating & straying off the path of wellness … but weight fluctuates ALL. THE. TIME. Instead of trying to instantly get from point A ( unhealthy ) to point B ( wellness!!! ) & suddenly cutting out all of your guilty pleasure foods, simply eat them in MODERATIONOver time, you’ll realize that you no longer crave them.

Don’t be afraid to take it slow – you’re trying for a permanent lifestyle change, NOT an ineffective quick-fix.

In the theme of Thanksgiving, I wanted to touch on this : I’m so, so thankful for many things in my life … I have a hobby I absolutely love ( blogging for you babes, of course! ), an amazingly supportive mom, sis, & pup ( Bonbon supports me with warm cuddles ), the opportunity to go to college & study abroad in Paris, & much more.

The one thing ruining the vibe? My insecurity. I always feel a little bummed out about my body, even if it’s just the slimmest little sliver of wistfulness passing through my mind. Now, don’t get me wrong – I’ve definitely passed that self-deprecating phase & I do love & appreciate myself … I just wish clothes would fit better, y’know?

Thankfully, all we have is time.

Maybe I messed up this time around & let myself slip into my old ways of overeating … BUT, it’s really nothing I can’t fix + improve on  … & of course, I can redeem myself at the future meals to come + Christmas or New Year’s or any other holiday that involves some form of indulgence & feasting.

It’s a lifestyle, after all.

So, how’s everyone? Any Thanksgiving highlights? Indulged in any delish foods lately? Did you β™‘ the cute lil’ worksheet I made? Tell, tell.

Very, VERY thankful for you babes – talk soon! xx
