SO, if you guys didn’t know this about me : I LOVEEEE some good ambition.

As in, I live & breathe it.

Like, it can be a bit psycho how much I think ahead? I just love the decisiveness of goal-setting & doing whatever I can to bridge the gap from point A to point B. 

Kind of reminiscent of the whole idea of TSL & being the best version of yourself you possibly can, am I right?

Usually people feel the most ambitious right around the new year – like they’re ready to embrace change as the clock strikes 12 on NYE.

NOPE, not me – I feel like I’m locked & loaded, ready to rock at the start of summer.

Is that ironic? Probs.

Summertime is when I feel at my best & REALLY get shit done. From fall to spring I’m too busy trying to balance my health + school + work + social life – ya feel?

Hi loves!

Sorry for being a bit MIA – I’ve really been wanting to post consistently ( at least once a week ) but life has been pretty cray-cray lately :

  • Major TSL planning going down for next year
  • Finals week … a.k.a. classes were pretty damn stressful
  • I got an on-campus job, finally! #hustling
  • I broke my toe ( don’t ask 😅 )

Yup, I def hit that time of the semester when things slide out of control. 🙁

… But, I’m back now, babes!!! It’s all sunny from here – HELLO, summer vaycay – hope you’re a hottie.

SO anyway, Lent this year ended on April 13.

& as you babes know, I gave up animal products for at least 40 meals ( a.k.a. went “vegan” for at least 1 meal / day ) … & obvi y’all are gonna get every lil’ TMI detail.

How’s everyone’s weekend going so far? Hope it’s been beach-y & bright!

I spent my Friday night w/ a granny moment, curled up in bed w/ some soft blankets & a good book ( currently reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert – SO good ) & then spent my Saturday finishing all of my assignments due next week so that I’d have time to work on the blog & get some TLC during the week.

Gotta make time for you babes ( & myself ), y’know?

But anyway after powering through some business calc homework I developed a SERIOUS pizza craving.

& the thing about cravings is that once it’s there, it’s THERE & needs to be crushed … or else the next time you’re face-to-face w/ a pie of lovely pizza, you’ll stuff that whole thing down your throat. 

Nope, NOT pretty. 

If you don’t know this about me : I have a deep, deep love for pizza. & it hasn’t been a healthy relationship since pizza isn’t the greatest thing to eat – it’s easy to overdo it & it’s full of carbs, sodium, & hidden calories ( aka if you throw on too many toppings ).

SO I wanted to find a way to modify my order to the point where I’m consuming less calories & fewer bad ingredients.

I try to hit the gym & work out for an hour or 2 on the daily, always … mostly ’cause it’s calming & therapeutic & REALLY kicks my ass into gear. 

& also because being a full-time student means I’m quite literally glued to a chair for most of the day.

Nope, just not the best look.

Last week ( the week coming back from spring break ) was superrr busy & hectic  & left me w/ no time to spare – which is so aggravating since it’s already so hard to separate excuses ( a.k.a. laziness ) from actual, legit conflict when it comes to hard, hard work. 

As a way to balance it out, I always try to be active & maximize movement whenever I can so that I’m not 100% sedentary.


5 Tricks to Maximize Movement, Ditch the Sedentary Lifestyle, & Burn Some Calories

☀️ Walk, & then walk some more.

Seriously one of the BEST tips.

Walking so great for self-reflection … & I LOVE a good walk after a meal. Really helps w/ the digestion y’know?

Basically if you have to go somewhere & it’s less than a 10 min walk away, just walk. There’s no real need to take the car – or in my case, the on-campus shuttle – unless I’m absolutely running late or there’s annoying weather ( rain, rain go away ).

Actually the weirdo thing is when I’m running late ( which happens often 😅 ) it’s MUCH faster to run / speed walk than to hop in a car & deal w/ parking.

🌡 HOT TIP : If you do take the car & you’re not running late, try parking far, far away so you can force yourself to walk more!

I try to walk as often as I can, as long as it’s safe & I’m not in a huge rush. Every step counts! 

☀️ Feel free to fidget a bit.

Moving often, whether it’s re-crossing your legs, taking a sip from your water bottle, playing with your hair, etc. will burn cals ( yes, tiny amounts, but they totally add up ) & will even keep you entertained – lol!

Win-win for sure. 

Butttt, don’t be annoying about it. I feel like the leg bouncing thing is kinda obnoxious – anyone w/ me? 🙋 

☀️ Do a couple of chores. 

Cleaning your room, fixing up a snack, doing laundry, washing dishes, taking out the trash, etc. are easy ways to get shit done while also getting some exercise. Your ass & your roommate / mom / significant other will thank you later. 😉 

Two birds, one stone. ALWAYS.

An excuse to play w/ dogs? Sign me up! Like, RIGHT NOW.

Your pets can totally be the cutest / most loyal workout buddy you’ve ever had. 

A confession : I literally race Bonbon up & down the stairs at home, LOL.

☀️ Always take the stairs.

Yes, the STAIRS!

It’s a quickie, convenient way to get where you need to go.

… & there’s no need to stand around awkwardly in a metal box w/ strangers, praying to God that you don’t somehow get stuck in the elevator.

I’m not claustrophobic or anything but I feel like stairs are just the better choice – unless you live on the 5th floor or something. 

& PLEASE please don’t go to the gym to use the StairMaster & then take the elevator down to the parking lot – I’ve seen it happen wayyy too often. 😂

I firmly believe that taking the stairs is KEY when it comes to the health / wellness levels in Europe.

When I was in Paris, according to my iPhone’s health app ( where every flight is counted as 3m in elevation ), I climbed anywhere from 25-50 flights every single day. The metro system, living on the 5th floor without an elevator in your building, etc., will guarantee that!

It’s crazy but IT WORKS – for sure kept me in shape while I inhaled baguettes, cheese, & croissants – HA!

Really, you’re more than just a number.

Cliché as that statement is ( haven’t we heard it about a million times by now? ), it just needs to be said.

& said AGAIN.

It’s so ridiculously easy for us to consider things quantitatively especially when we deal w/ so many numbers on the daily : the number in your bank account, the number on your transcript, the number glaring up at you from your bathroom scale, & heck, even something as trivial as the number of likes you have on a picture.

Those numbers enter our minds & within a split second we’re already comparing it & wishing for a different one.

So, I want to encourage you to see things differently, especially when it comes to that morning moment of truth when you close your eyes & step on the scale. When those 2 or 3 numbers set your mood for the day. When they glare up at you accusingly, & you frantically try to remember what you ate the previous day.

Please please please don’t obsess over it.
