Heyyy! It’s been a while, no?

How was your Thanksgiving?

Don’t feel bad if you ate enough turkey + cranberry sauce for the both of us – I missed out on all of the traditions this year.

I’m talking : AM in my room ( hiding from the cold, obv ), PM in a random Parisian KFC for Thanksgiving Trashgiving dinner ( KFC is so much worse here ), & the AM of Black Friday dancing in a underground club ( there was an actual slide to slide down to the dance floor ).

So random, right?

Really, the only tradition I participated in was feasting overeating. πŸ˜…

Overeating as in : I was already full, yet I didn’t stop myself from eating more.

Are you having a “been there, done that” moment?

Admittedly, I’ve been having a moment after most of my meals recently.

You can say that I’ve been going through an icy patch : I stopped working out & I suppose just subconsciously stopped watching what I was eating. The excitement & stamina involved in traveling, trying new things, & adapting to a different culture blinded me from realizing what I was doing – wellness was totallyyy out the door!

But, I’m not here to make excuses.

I gazed at my reflection in the mirror earlier the other day & decided that it was time for a wake-up call.

Real talk : while in Paris, I lost muscle, gained body fat, & ate / drank junk I definitely shouldn’t have. & this is after losing tons of weight during the summer after LOTS of hard, hard work.

“Kayla, WTF are you doing?!” I literally stood there questioning myself.

So, finally fed up with overeating ( ha! ), I staged an intervention for myself … It 100% needed to be done.

I needed to make a recovery & refocus. Old habits really do die hard … & this habit of overeating really, REALLY needed to die before I completely relapsed & gained all of the weight back.

some much-needed TLC

Skin care is so necessary - especially when you're surrounded by cigarette smoke & other nasty pore cloggers. Click through to learn about the Clarisonic Mia 2 & find out how to give your skin some much-needed TLC!{ pin it! πŸ“Œ }

In Europe, chain-smoking is a real thing.

Of course, you do you, but I just can’t see myself jumping aboard the cigarette wagon anytime soon … The smell just gets to me, y’know?

But, even beyond the smell, smoking is VERY anti-wellness – it’s so ridiculously bad for you, inside & out. The problem with this pesky habit is that the side effects happen not only to the smoker, but also to everyone else around them. πŸ™

It was only a couple of days of my life in Paris before I noticed how bad my skin got due to the never-ending billows of cig smoke around me. I knew something was up because I’ve actually been VERY on-point with my skin-care routine recently. Back home, skin care tended to slip my mind, & when I did actually remember, I slacked off tons. Tsk, tsk – I know.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have an actual SINK in my room, just a couple feet away from my bed? I swear, it just sits there in the corner & judges me if I don’t get up & take care of my skin – LOL!

But really, at one point, I felt so nasty & knew that my skin needed some major TLC. So, I got a Deep Pore set + a Mia 2 from Clarisonic & the rest is history. Continue Reading

it pays to pay attention to the details, details

If you’ve been here since TSL‘s launch ( thanks babe! ), you’d know that my writing so far has been to-the-point & tends to be all teach & no play – literally an onslaught of tips ( & quite honestly, may sometimes be a bit of a snooze ). I mean, no need to be so serious all of the time, right?

From now on, posts will revolve around what has actually been going on in my life, like little fun anecdotes & tips + tricks. We all have busy lives, so TSL will be very much on-the-go. It just feels more relaxed + real that way … & I want to make sure your experience on my blog is 100% sunshine, ‘kay?

Details, Details

So anyway, here’s a story for ya :

As you guys know, I’m studying abroad in Paris at the mo’ – which means that the fall break ( a.k.a. : the week of Halloween, which the U.S. doesn’t count as a no-school holiday – lameeee ) will involve lots of travel & wanderlust. Seriously, I’ll be going from place to place & snapping ALL OF IT – come hang

Luckily, I don’t have Friday classes this semester – SO I had originally planned to go to London earlier than the rest of my girlfriends so that I’d get a chance at some Nancy Drew self-exploration moments, y’know?

Of course, things don’t always go as planned … & when that happens, it sucks beyond belief. Continue Reading

going through an icy patch

October 19, 2016

going through an icy patch @

Hi, hi!

Summer has ( sadly ) passed, & I can’t say I was ready to move on – at all.

If you’ve been sticking around TSL & coming back every so often ( thank you!!! ), you’d notice that the site’s been changed around kind of a lot to fit a different aesthetic. The content has also changed a bit, but honestly, not very drastically.

Well, this is a little embarrassing, isn’t it?

Not an excuse, but an explanation : It’s been busy, hectic, & really just a HUGE struggle. Studying abroad obv isn’t just full of sunshine & macarons!

Yep, I’ve been totally MIA … I guess you can call it being uninspired : I haven’t been the balanced & wellness-driven gal I’ve been just two months ago. I mean, it just felt wrong of me to discuss wellness whilst I sat in bed downing an entire baguette, y’know?

I promise I’ll be back … Midterms, traveling, & playing catch-up will come first, though. I want to do some blog planning to keep things interesting, organized, & summery. So, stay tuned!

You’ll know TSL is in full blaze again when this post poofs off the top of the page in rays of sunshine & sparkles. Or, to get some personal lovin’, you can get notified by moi through TSL’s Newsletter / social networks ( find them on the top & side bars! )

Love y’all – talk later! β™‘ Get excited! xx

COMMITMENT ISSUES? get a gym membership!

Do you have commitment issues when it comes to being healthy? Learn about a simple solution & the ULTIMATE problem-solver : a gym membership. Click through to read the full post & start taking action on your own wellness lifestyle!{ pin it! πŸ“Œ }

Topic of the day? COMMITMENT ISSUES.

Honest to God, we all have them, right???

Like how I tried to set a schedule for myself & said I’d be posting every 3 days – but my last post was on Sept. 3 ( I’m so sorry, ugh ).

Or like how last week you probably swore that you’d start to eat healthier, but you totally ate not one, but TWO cookies the other day after lunch. & if you’re anything like me when I was trying to diet, you’d do it all over again the next Monday … & the next after that … because dieting doesn’t really work.

& it’s fine. Commitment is hard, & it’s a problem that everyone struggles with at least one time in their lives, in one form or another.  Continue Reading

a lil’ update for y’all from PARIS!

September 3, 2016

a lil’ update for y’all from PARIS! @

Hi loves – long time no chat!

It’s been SUPER busy-busy these days … BUT I want to keep you guys updated, regardless.

I really try to make it a priority to post at least 2-3 times a week ( basically, every 3 days : if I posted on Monday, expect the next on Thursday – ALL at 5 AM PST ), but I really couldn’t do it.

& I would really rather spend quality time making quality content, instead of rushing & slapping some random BS post on TSL. It’s just not my thing to do the bare minimum, you know?

Right now, I’m actually writing this from a little wooden desk in my room in Paris, France! I could literally be in Antartica or something & yep, you’d still find me blogging away … πŸ™‚ ( you can keep up with my behind-the-scenes adventures on Snapchat! )

YES, Paris. It’s such a dream. I’m constantly pinching myself to remind myself it’s real.

So far, it’s been really incredible. I got here less than a week ago to study abroad this fall, & I’m already dreading the day I leave, HA!

So, this post is pretty special / different. I’ve been so focused on trying to provide value to y’all with my posts & explain / teach what I’ve been doing to keep up a wellness lifestyle. To the point where I forgot that it’s okay sometimes to just chill & sip some champagne ( YUM … conveniently, I’m legal here πŸ˜‰ ) & chat a bit / keep you updated! … Cheers! β™‘

Anyway, I do want to give you babes something to look forward to :

β˜€οΈ I’ll be taking about a million pics & I’ll always try to include them throughout posts … Lots of European inspo, coming up!
β˜€οΈ I’m working on a special lil’ project for y’all – VERY much excited.
β˜€οΈ I’m thinking of doing a series of my adventures abroad. Like, a daily journal / itinerary. I’d post it once a week, to keep things interesting. Are you guys interested??? Let me know!

Okay, good talk.

It has really been soooo long, you know? So overdue.

Now, I’m going to organize my Pinterest boards, finally. They’re such a work-in-progress it’s like low-key a nightmare. Feel free to check them out though!

Oh gosh.

I can’t even begin to describe how much I loveeee music. It’s entertaining, it’s fun, it’s a confidence booster, it’s a conversation starter, & hell – nothing has ever made me more productive. I totally swear by music when it comes to getting shit done & becoming the best version of yourself.

For me, music = motivation. I like it loud –  HA!

Especially when working out. YES.

But, sometimes music is very much underrated. People complain that it’s a total distraction … I agree – music might be a distraction sometimes, but it’s a GOOD one. Reallyyy & truly. Continue Reading
