Who doesn’t love a good, classic burger + fries?

I know I do.

& you can say it’s a guilty pleasure, but it can definitely be a pleasure sans the guilt – TRUST ME.

The weirdo thing about burgers & the stigma that comes w/ them is that the concept of it isn’t necessarily unhealthy : they’re basically sandwiches … & like all sandwiches they can totally, 100%, be modified to suit a healthy lifestyle.

BUT, there are def some HUGE I-should-NOT-be-eating-this moments when it comes to burgers : too many toppings, too many condiments, too big of a portion size, etc. … which basically = WAYYY too many damn calories. 

& some other lesser-known problems : beef in itself is pretty fattening ( grass-fed beef is better though! ) – & on a grill, it’s like inviting carcinogens to your bod, the buns are usually very processed & thus not nutritious, or that a leaf of lettuce & a thin slice of tomato really just isn’t enough, veggie-wise.

BURGER TURN-OFFS …

☀️ too many toppings
☀️ too many condiments
☀️ too big of a portion
☀️ red meat isn’t the best option out there
☀️ not enough veggies
☀️ processed bun

When it comes to burgers, I do 1 of 2 things : either I eat 1/2 of the portion, or I modify, modify, MODIFY.

An easy way to put a skinny spin on the classic burger is to simply ask for a bunless burger ( a BIG plus if you can sub the bun for lettuce ), to replace beef w/ chicken ( less icky saturated fats & bad LDL cholesterol ), & to add on more fresh produce ( I like avocado for healthy fats or extra tomato to sex things up – who needs ketchup? ).

🌡 hot tip : when at In-N-Out, just ask for your burger protein style for a mouthwatering bunless burger.

& if you’re REALLY wanting some fries, always order sweet potato if possible OR eat a half-portion of regular fries. Sweet potatoes are vitamin A superstars, have fewer calories, more fiber, better carbs, & taste amazing … + they can double up as a dessert!

I also LOVE a good zucchini fry – I try to shy away from starchy vegetables because they aren’t the best option compared to leafy greens like kale or spinach.

But a girl’s gotta have her fries, am I right??? 🍟

ALSO I’m not a fan of those little packs of ketchup from fast food places because they’re full of empty calories, high fructose corn syrup, & “natural” flavorings … Good fries just don’t need ketchup, y’know?

& if you’re not eating good fries well, WTF you doing, girl? 😜

( note : to be clear, I don’t hate ketchup – just the typical Heinz shit. LOVE this one. )
